Mayor Andy Hafen recently visited the Emerald Island Casino with the Alan Stock Show (KXNT 840AM) that broadcasts here live on-air once a month.  He is and has been a huge supporter of Downtown Henderson and its redevelopment, including the renovations at Emerald Island, Water St. District and surrounding areas. Mayor Hafen was elected in 2009 and then re-elected in April 2013 as the city’s 12th mayor.

On May 23, 2017, we will celebrate our official 14th Anniversary! But, the real fun begins on May 20, 2017, when we celebrate our anniversary with you, our valued guests!  Please come party with us as we throw one of our renowned guest appreciation parties to fete our great run of 14 years and counting!

It seems another effort is underway to eliminate the penny!  An Act, which also seeks to totally replace the dollar bill with a coin, was announced last week by U.S. Senators John McCain and Mike Enzi. The act has a long boring name, but a great acronym.  The official name is the Currency Optimization, Innovation, and National Savings Act of 2017, or the COINS Act for short. Citing the high cost of making a penny and claiming that dollar bills don't fit into the modern economy, the authors of the Act claim that the cost savings of the plan could be as high as $16 billion.

Over the past several years, the Nevada Gaming Commission has been studying skill based gaming and carefully crafting legislation to regulate this exciting and innovative new gaming experience.  The new regulations allow a game’s outcome to be determined by the application of chance, the skill of the player, or a combination of skill and chance. ​ Traditionally, slots wagers must be determined entirely by a machine’s random number generator. By contrast, skill-based slots would allow players to increase their chances of winning depending on how well they perform a video game-like task. "Skill-based" slot machines are meant to appeal to the young and young at heart.  Some of the first such games that are rolling out soon will include familiar video arcade game titles that we all fondly remember!  These fun new games will give players a totally new gaming experience!  For the first time players will be able to influence the outcome of a reel type game.
